One-time purchase / 3 personal devices

Alacritty showing a shell session in HackerBlue: a navy window, steel-blue text, a cyan prompt and cursor, git status markers in muted red and cyan, and the sixteen terminal colors as two rows of swatches.

Alacritty 0.17 running on Linux with HackerBlue imported.

How to install

Three steps in your device's terminal. Every command is exactly what you type; copy it, paste it, press Enter.

  1. Put the HackerBlue program on your device

    Linux or macOS: Terminal
    curl -fsSL https://hackerblue.dev/install.sh | sh
    Windows: PowerShell
    irm https://hackerblue.dev/install.ps1 | iex
  2. Sign in

    Terminal
    hackerblue login

A page opens in your browser; sign in to your Hacker Blue account and choose Approve.

  3. Install the Alacritty theme

    Terminal
    hackerblue install alacritty

Alacritty reloads its config on its own; open a new window if it does not.

A file of yours called hackerblue.toml is never overwritten.

Updates come with your licence: hackerblue update alacritty when a newer version is out. hackerblue uninstall alacritty removes it and restores your previous theme selection, keeping your later settings edits. Every command, and the rest of the guide: the install guide.

Alacritty, default and in HackerBlue

The same view twice. The switch changes only the theme.

Alacritty with its stock default colours: a near-black window with a git status and the sixteen terminal colours in their stock tints. Alacritty with HackerBlue: the same session on a deep navy window, with steel-blue text, muted red and sand status markers and a cyan cursor.

Alacritty 0.17.0 running on Linux, the same session in its stock default look and in HackerBlue. Captured from the running app in a throwaway config.

Alacritty belongs to its owner; Hacker Blue is not affiliated with or endorsed by it.

The theme

HackerBlue for Alacritty is one colors file in Alacritty's own TOML format. It sets the terminal's text and background, the cursor, the selection, search matches and hint labels, the footer bar and line indicator, and the sixteen terminal colors that ls, git and your prompt draw with.

Body text keeps at least 4.5:1 contrast against the background. What it does not change: your font, window size, opacity and key bindings; it holds colors and nothing else. Alacritty reads an imported file first and your own alacritty.toml last, so a color you have set there yourself still wins. Made and checked with Alacritty 0.17 on Linux.
