One-time purchase / 3 personal devices

WezTerm running on Linux with HackerBlue: a navy window with steel-blue text, colored ls output, the sixteen ANSI colors in a row and a cyan cursor.

WezTerm 20240203 running on Linux with HackerBlue selected, captured from the running app.

How to install

Three steps in your device's terminal. Every command is exactly what you type; copy it, paste it, press Enter.

  1. Put the HackerBlue program on your device

    Linux or macOS: Terminal
    curl -fsSL https://hackerblue.dev/install.sh | sh
    Windows: PowerShell
    irm https://hackerblue.dev/install.ps1 | iex
  2. Sign in

    Terminal
    hackerblue login

A page opens in your browser; sign in to your Hacker Blue account and choose Approve.

  3. Install the WezTerm theme

    Terminal
    hackerblue install wezterm

WezTerm reloads its config when the file is saved; if it does not switch, restart it.

If your wezterm.lua does not end in return config, the command leaves it alone and prints the one line to add yourself. A scheme file of yours with the same name is never overwritten.

Updates come with your licence: hackerblue update wezterm when a newer version is out. hackerblue uninstall wezterm removes it and restores your previous theme selection, keeping your later settings edits. Every command, and the rest of the guide: the install guide.

WezTerm, default and in HackerBlue

The same view twice. The switch changes only the theme.

WezTerm with its stock default theme: a black window with a grey file listing, a git status and the sixteen terminal colours in their default tints. WezTerm with HackerBlue: the same session on a deep navy window, with steel-blue text, muted red and sand status markers and a cyan cursor.

WezTerm 20240203 running on Linux, the same session in its stock default theme and in HackerBlue. Captured from the running app in a throwaway config.

WezTerm belongs to its owner; Hacker Blue is not affiliated with or endorsed by it.

The theme

HackerBlue for WezTerm is a color scheme in WezTerm's own format. It sets the text and background, the cursor and selection, the split lines and the sixteen terminal colors, so programs that draw in color look right on it.

It sets colors only: your font, opacity, layout and key bindings are never touched. It also colors WezTerm's tab bar, but only in the retro tab bar style (use_fancy_tab_bar = false); WezTerm's default fancy tab bar takes its colors from window_frame, which a color scheme cannot set. It is a dark scheme, made and checked with WezTerm 20240203 on Linux.
