One-time purchase / 3 personal devices

btop's CPU, memory and disk panels in HackerBlue: steel-blue borders and a blue-to-muted-red gradient on a navy background.

How to install

Three steps in your device's terminal. Every command is exactly what you type; copy it, paste it, press Enter.

  1. Put the HackerBlue program on your device

    Linux or macOS: Terminal
    curl -fsSL https://hackerblue.dev/install.sh | sh
    Windows: PowerShell
    irm https://hackerblue.dev/install.ps1 | iex
  2. Sign in

    Terminal
    hackerblue login

A page opens in your browser; sign in to your Hacker Blue account and choose Approve.

  3. Install the btop theme

    Terminal
    hackerblue install btop

Restart btop. To go back, pick another theme under Options.

Your own themes are never touched, and a theme you made called hacker-blue is never overwritten.

Updates come with your licence: hackerblue update btop when a newer version is out. hackerblue uninstall btop removes it and restores your previous theme selection, keeping your later settings edits. Every command, and the rest of the guide: the install guide.

btop, default and in HackerBlue

The same view twice. The switch changes only the theme.

btop's CPU, memory and disk panels in its Default theme: a green-to-red gradient on CPU load and olive box borders on a dark grey terminal. btop's CPU, memory and disk panels in HackerBlue: steel-blue borders and a blue-to-muted-red gradient on a navy background.

btop 1.4.7 running on Linux, in its Default theme and in HackerBlue. Captured from the running app; the live figures differ between the two because they were taken at different moments.

btop belongs to its owner; Hacker Blue is not affiliated with or endorsed by it.

The theme

HackerBlue for btop is a theme in btop's own theme format. It colours every part of the monitor, box outlines, titles, the CPU, memory, disk and network graphs and meters, and the process list, in deep navy, steel-blue text and cyan, with a warm amber-to-red ramp so a hot CPU or temperature still stands out.

It paints btop's own background, so it looks the same in any terminal, and it needs a terminal with 24-bit colour. It uses no network and adds nothing to btop except one theme file.

It was made and tested with btop 1.4.7 on Linux; any btop that loads .theme files from its config folder can use it.
