kitty running on Linux with HackerBlue: a navy window with steel-blue text, a coloured ANSI palette and a cyan cursor.

kitty 0.49.1 running on Linux with HackerBlue applied, captured from the running app.

How to install

Three steps in your device's terminal. Every command is exactly what you type; copy it, paste it, press Enter.

  1. Put the HackerBlue program on your device

    Linux or macOS: Terminal
    curl -fsSL https://hackerblue.dev/install.sh | sh
    Windows: PowerShell
    irm https://hackerblue.dev/install.ps1 | iex
  2. Sign in

    Terminal
    hackerblue login

A page opens in your browser; sign in to your Hacker Blue account and choose Approve.

  3. Install the kitty theme

    Terminal
    hackerblue install kitty

Restart kitty, or press Ctrl+Shift+F5 to reload its config.

A theme file of yours with the same name is never overwritten.

Updates come with your licence: hackerblue update kitty when a newer version is out. hackerblue uninstall kitty removes it and restores your previous theme selection, keeping your later settings edits. Every command, and the rest of the guide: the install guide.

kitty, default and in HackerBlue

The same view twice. The switch changes only the theme.

kitty with its stock default theme: a black window with a grey file listing, a git status and the sixteen terminal colours in their default tints. kitty with HackerBlue: the same session on a deep navy window, with steel-blue text, muted red and sand status markers, the palette drawn in the theme's tints and a cyan cursor.

kitty 0.49.2 running on Linux, the same session in its stock default theme and in HackerBlue. Captured from the running app in a throwaway config.

kitty belongs to its owner; Hacker Blue is not affiliated with or endorsed by it.

The theme

HackerBlue for kitty is a colour theme in kitty's own format, the kind kitten themes lists. It sets the text and background, the selection and cursor, links, window borders, the tab bar and the sixteen terminal colours, so programs that draw in colour look right on it.

It sets colours only: your font, opacity, layout and key bindings are never touched. It is a dark theme. It was made and tested with kitty 0.49.1 on Linux.
