Neovim.

HackerBlue for Neovim is a dark colorscheme for the editor: deep navy surfaces, steel-blue text and one cyan signal, across the interface, Treesitter syntax, diagnostics and the plugins you already run. One payment for the theme, updates included at no extra charge, and up to three personal devices.

$2.99 for Neovim, less per theme when you pick more.

One-time purchase / 3 personal devices

A Lua file open in Neovim in HackerBlue: navy background, steel-blue text, cyan keywords, muted line numbers and a search match highlighted in blue.

Neovim 0.12.5 on Linux with HackerBlue selected, drawn from the running session's screen contents: Treesitter syntax, a search match and the status line.

How to install

Three steps in your device's terminal. Every command is exactly what you type; copy it, paste it, press Enter.

  1. Put the HackerBlue program on your device

    Linux or macOS: Terminal
    curl -fsSL https://hackerblue.dev/install.sh | sh
    Windows: PowerShell
    irm https://hackerblue.dev/install.ps1 | iex
  2. Sign in

    Terminal
    hackerblue login

A page opens in your browser; sign in to your Hacker Blue account and choose Approve.

  3. Install the Neovim theme

    Terminal
    hackerblue install neovim

Restart Neovim, or run :colorscheme hackerblue.

If a plugin sets its own colorscheme later in your configuration, that one wins; remove it or move the Hacker Blue lines below it. A colors/hackerblue.lua of your own is never overwritten.

Updates come with your licence: hackerblue update neovim when a newer version is out. hackerblue uninstall neovim removes it and restores your previous theme selection, keeping your later settings edits. Every command, and the rest of the guide: the install guide.

Neovim, default and in HackerBlue

The same view twice. The switch changes only the theme.

A Lua file open in Neovim with its default colour scheme: white keywords, cyan functions and strings in green on a dark grey background, with a search match highlighted in yellow. The same Lua file in Neovim with HackerBlue: navy background, steel-blue text, cyan keywords, muted comments and a search match highlighted in blue.

Neovim 0.12.5 running on Linux, the same file in its default colour scheme and in HackerBlue. Captured from the running editor in a throwaway profile.

Neovim belongs to its owner; Hacker Blue is not affiliated with or endorsed by it.

The theme

HackerBlue for Neovim is a dark colorscheme written for the editor itself: text, line numbers, the cursor line, splits, the status line, menus and floating windows, diffs and spelling, plus syntax colours for Treesitter and for the extra detail language servers add through semantic highlighting. Diagnostics get their own colours, and so do Telescope, gitsigns, nvim-cmp, nvim-tree, which-key and indent-blankline.

It is a dark theme and it needs a terminal or GUI with 24-bit colour. Body text and comments keep at least 3.5:1 contrast against the editor background, and code at 4.5:1 or more, so long sessions stay readable. It was made and tested with Neovim 0.12.5 on Linux and uses only Neovim's own highlight API, so it needs Neovim 0.9 or newer; it adds no plugin and no dependency.
