One-time purchase / 3 personal devices

A preview of Zed's editor in Hacker Blue: a TypeScript file with keywords, functions, strings and comments in steel blue and cyan on a navy background, with the sidebar, tab bar and status bar.

Preview: a rendering of the theme's colours in a Zed-style window, not a screenshot of Zed itself.

How to install

Three steps in your device's terminal. Every command is exactly what you type; copy it, paste it, press Enter.

  1. Put the HackerBlue program on your device

    Linux or macOS: Terminal
    curl -fsSL https://hackerblue.dev/install.sh | sh
    Windows: PowerShell
    irm https://hackerblue.dev/install.ps1 | iex
  2. Sign in

    Terminal
    hackerblue login

A page opens in your browser; sign in to your Hacker Blue account and choose Approve.

  3. Install the Zed theme

    Terminal
    hackerblue install zed

Zed picks the theme up at once. To go back, choose another theme in Zed's picker (Ctrl/Cmd+K, then Ctrl/Cmd+T).

If your settings.json has comments, or already sets separate light and dark themes, the command leaves it alone and asks you to pick Hacker Blue in the picker.

Updates come with your licence: hackerblue update zed when a newer version is out. hackerblue uninstall zed removes it and restores your previous theme selection, keeping your later settings edits. Every command, and the rest of the guide: the install guide.

Zed, default and in HackerBlue

The same view twice. The switch changes only the theme.

Zed with its One Dark theme: a Python build file on a slate editor with coloured syntax. Zed with HackerBlue: the same file on deep navy, with steel-blue code and cyan keywords.

Zed 1.22.0 running on Linux, the same build file in its stock default look and in HackerBlue. Captured from the running app in a throwaway config.

Zed belongs to its owner; Hacker Blue is not affiliated with or endorsed by it.

The theme

HackerBlue for Zed is a dark theme in Zed's own theme format. It colours the editor and its syntax highlighting, the sidebar and panels, tabs and the status bar, diagnostics and version-control marks, and the integrated terminal's sixteen colours; deep navy surfaces, steel-blue text, and one cyan signal for focus and selection.

It is a dark theme, and it is named Hacker Blue in Zed's theme picker. The installer selects it for you and leaves the rest of your Zed settings as they were.
